Congrats Sensei on earning his sixth dan, massive achievement!
Great class with special guests abound!
Sensei we GOT you!!!!
The return of the Smurf …… good to be back on the mats …
Alan
Last night was a bonzai class. No, we didn’t spend two hours pruning little trees but the class itself was tiny with just five of us, including Sensei Dan. What’s going on?!
Anyway we had a good class and covered a dozen or so techniques off a grab and punch. For some reason I was super sensitive last night and everything really hurt. Or was that just Dans style…
Knocked out three throws at the end, ippon, moratai and sodi nage. I feel a master class on break falling is in order, we’re starting to add some venom to our throws and people need to learn to breakfall (and not shoulder first!!)
Cheers everyone and Sensei Dan for giving us your evenings this week. Hope the senior Senseis feel better soon!
Haha! Those in attendance were nearly sorely disappointed last night when at 20:05 the senior grade was…me. We started the class regardless and were quickly rescued by Sensei Dan. Can you imagine what those two hours would have degenerated into had I continued leading the class??
Seeing as we had been Judo’d out last week Dan was on instructions from Sensei Alan to make us work on our striking. My arms are still tired today, must be all that muscle I’m carrying.
Unsurprisingly we soon ended up doing throws (can’t help ourselves) and we practiced harai gosi/ushiro goshi from a jab.
Sensei John sends his apologies bug he was not allowed out to play as he’s nursing a cold. Sensei Alan was also absent having injured himself protecting the good citizens of Hounslow.
What happened .who was there ?

I’m sure you’re all worried about my welfare and I’m pleased to say my leg isn’t too bad, still hurts to full straighten and walk but better than last night.
Very busy so I’ll summarise last night as follows,
Escape from wrist grab
Arm locks
Uki goshi
Harai goshi
Uchi Mata
*Ouch*
Thanks for you’re concern but I am indeed indestructible, as well as incredibly athletic, and I live to fight another day.

Ya wimps! Where were you today?? Ian you’re excused, we know you’re busy consummating the marriage but the rest of you?! Poor Sensei was most upset that only five of us dedicated ninjas showed up for training! You all better have a good excuses when you show up on Wednesday.
Those of us who did attend had a bloody good class. Sensei Dan was back and we started with a game of piggy in the middle. Ha, bet you’re sorry you bunked off now eh?! We then practiced some shoulder throws against an attacking opponent, some kata and finished with some chokes. It was definitely a bit of a master class and we had a good laugh doing it.
Can I also point out that I carried Sensei Dan on my shoulders and did squats, he’s got a good 5 stones on me, nearly 50% weight advantage. The power of vegetarianism!
First class of what is sure to be a successful year for the club and what a promising start – good turnout, lots of groans of agony and even some blood was spilt (and diligently cleaned up).
The theme of the night was what to do when someone swings for you and tries to put you up against a wall. Good fun class and nice warm up for the year.
A special shout out to Ian who this week surrenders his freedom to the glory of matrimony! Grats Ian!
